Invitation for Candidates to Participate in General Election

The Royal Borough is extending a formal invitation to individuals interested in running as candidates to represent the Windsor and Maidenhead Parliamentary constituencies in the upcoming General Election scheduled for Thursday, 4th July.

Prospective candidates are required to schedule an appointment to personally submit their nomination forms to the Returning Officer or their assigned representative at the Town Hall by the deadline of Friday, 7th June at 4 pm. Those considering candidacy are encouraged to reach out to the Electoral Services Team at ro@rbwm.gov.uk or 07773 959296 for additional details.

Nomination packs and essential candidate guidelines, including information on eligibility criteria, can be accessed through the council website or by contacting the Electoral Services Team directly.

Following the closure of the nomination period, the official list of confirmed candidates for each local constituency will be promptly disclosed.

The voter registration deadline for this election is approaching, set for Tuesday, 18th June at 11:59 pm. However, registration is only mandatory for individuals who have not previously registered, have recently relocated, or undergone a name change.

Online registration is the most convenient method at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. For those who are already registered, anticipate receiving your polling card in the mail shortly.

The deadline for new postal vote and postal proxy applications, or modifications to existing applications, is 5 pm on Wednesday, 19th June. Additionally, the cutoff for new applications for voting by proxy (excluding postal proxy or emergency proxies) is 5 pm on Wednesday, 26th June.

A convenient online option is now available for applying to vote by post or proxy at https://www.gov.uk/how-to-vote. When applying for a postal or proxy vote, verification of identity, such as a National Insurance number or alternative supporting documentation, is required.

For individuals opting to cast their vote in person, proof of identity through accepted photo ID is mandatory to vote at a designated polling station. Various forms of photo ID are permissible, including passports, driving licenses, and cards with a PASS Mark.

In cases where suitable photo ID is absent, application for a free Voter Authority Certificate as an approved form of voter ID can be made by 5 pm on Wednesday, 26th June. For further details and to apply, visit www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voterID or contact 0800 328 0280. Expired ID can be used if the individual remains recognizable from the photograph.

Requests for paper application forms can be made by contacting the local Elections Helpline via 01628 683868 or electoral.registration@rbwm.gov.uk. To learn more about voter eligibility, visit www.electoralcommission.org.uk.
